Monday 25th March

We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Dragon Café on Monday 25th March.

The Dragon Café will be in person at The Crypt at St Peters Church.

Join us as we spend the day getting creative with our special workshops!

Timetable

12:00pm: Doors Open - Come and relax, catch-up and chat. Hot and cold drinks will be available.

12:30pm - 2:00pm: Creative Writing with Wordsmiths

We are extremely happy to welcome back Naomi from Wordsmiths to the Dragon Café for another of her Creative Writing sessions. In this fun workshop, attendees are guided through structured writing activities and games to enable them to create and share a mixture of fictional and true stories based on their own experiences.

The group setting allows each person to firstly build confidence by sharing work that they have created from nothing, and secondly to build empathy towards other people in their community by hearing their stories in their words. The goal is to enable a creative way to communicate and to understand thoughts and ideas whilst having fun.

2pm: Warm Food: This week at The Dragon Café we have free hot food available! This will be served after the creative writing workshop.

2:45pm– 3:30pm: Laughter Yoga with Patricia Byrne

Laughter yoga is amazing stress relief, getting you out of your head and into your body in an incredibly effective way. This workshop is designed to chase away your blues, boost your immune system and increase your resilience.

Sessions are fun & relaxed, combining movement, breathing and laughter exercises.
No downward dogs in this yoga, it's all about having a good laugh and releasing endorphins.

2:45 – 3:45pm: Southwark’s Hidden History

Alongside Vivien Ellis members of the Dragon Café are collaborating to explore the history of Southwark. This exploration will lead to a live ballad walk to be held in April. This fascinating excavation of the past is focusing on 'the hidden black history of Southwark', Crossbones Graveyard, Workhouses, and the industries of Southwark, including Breweries, Leather, Printing - and much more.

4pm – 5pm: Singing Group

In this Session participants are invited to come together in celebration of the positive impact of singing and the voice. This session facilitated by our singing lead Vivien Ellis will be an energy filled journey through a mix of singing and vocal styles. From sea shanties to old English chants, choral favourites written by the singing group and some improvised rounds and soundscapes. There is something in this session for everyone.

5:15pm – 6:15pm: Danceworks

For our session this week it’s time for our uplifting and re-energising weekly dance. We have some great music and a mix of old and new dances to throw yourself into. As always, this session will be skilfully led by our resident chorographers Ariella and Renzo. No experience necessary, come along and join in.

6:30pm – 7:30pm:

Bridging “Us” - A journey of creative discovery from South East Africa with Levar Polson.

It has always been a dream of Levar to travel through South East Africa and gain some understanding of the regions multitude of cultural stories, songs, and experiences and identities, whilst reflecting on what they mean to him as a young British born member of the black community. Levar has agreed to join us in St Peters via a zoom link live from Africa, as he nears the end of his journey. He invites us to share his experience and join in an interactive session based on his journey of cultural discovery and learning.

This session will be co-facilitated in the space by Gaynor Tutani. Gaynor is the Co-founder of EARTHworks [Artists]. Their work aims to raise awareness of the benefits of art and art making practices to health and well-being, alongside global issues such as climate change, equality, and diversity.

This session is a blended session with the opportunity to join the sharing live in the space, or to connect via zoom.

All are welcome and we look forward to welcoming you to The Crypt at St Peters. See you on Monday!
