Monday 8th January

We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Dragon Café on Monday 8th January for our first Dragon Café of the year.

The Dragon Café will be in person at The Crypt at St Peters Church.

Join us as we spend the day getting creative with our special workshops!

Timetable

12:00pm: Doors Open - Come and relax, catch-up and chat. Hot and cold drinks will be available.

12:30pm - 2:00pm: Wordsmiths Creative Writing

In this fun workshop, attendees are guided through structured writing activities and games to enable them to create and share a mixture of fictional and true stories based on their own experiences.

The group setting allows each person to firstly build confidence by sharing work that they have created from nothing, and secondly to build empathy towards other people in their community by hearing their stories in their words. The goal is to enable a creative way to communicate and to understand thoughts and ideas whilst having fun.

2pm: Warm Food: This week at The Dragon Café we have free hot food available! This will be served at 2pm after the creative writing workshop.

2:30pm - 3:30pmThe Dragon Café Singing Group

In this session participants are invited to come together in celebration of the positive impact of singing and the voice. This session facilitated by our singing lead Vivien Ellis will be an energy filled journey through a mix of singing and vocal styles. From sea shanties, to old English chants, choral favourites written by the singing group and some improvised rounds and soundscapes. There is something in this session for everyone.

4:00pm - 5:00pm: Danceworks

For our session this week it’s time for our uplifting and re-energising weekly dance. We have some great music and a mix of old and new dances to throw yourself into. As always, this session will be skilfully led by our resident chorographers Ariella and Renzo. No experience necessary, come along and join in.

5:20 - 6:20: Gong Bath

Bring in the new year with a relaxing and cleansing gong bath.

Gong baths are an immediate and effective way to achieve deep relaxation and enhance well-being.  They are particularly recommended for anyone struggling with insomnia, anxiety, depression, anger issues or chronic pain... but can be enjoyed by and helpful for everyone.

All you have to do is lie back and enjoy the healing sounds of magnificent large gongs, played alongside Himalayan singing bowls, quartz crystal singing bowls and Javanese bronze percussion. Sessions are led by experienced gong-player and trained sound therapist Cathy Eastburn.

Open to all!  Why not come along and give it a try?

Feel free to bring a blanket or a Yoga Mat along if you want to lie down during this session.

About Cathy Eastburn:

I've been playing Javanese gamelan (Indonesian bronze percussion) including gongs, metallophones, drum and voice, for over 20 years.  From my very first class I fell in love with the sound, and quickly became aware of the powerfully therapeutic potential of these instruments.
More recently, I discovered the sounds of the Western symphonic tam-tam (the kind of gong commonly used in therapeutic sound work), singing bowls, and the use of voice in over-toning and kundalini chant.  As well as continuing my study of gamelan I have also been studying therapeutic sound, including completing a year-long Practitioner Diploma in Sound Therapy with the British Academy of Sound.

All are welcome and we look forward to welcoming you to The Crypt at St Peters. See you on Monday!
